As you begin on your journey to legal qualification, your exam success is just as important as your career prospects in the legal profession. We have teamed up with Jane Drew, a careers coach and legal graduate recruitment specialist, to launch a virtual careers clinic for all our SQE Prep course students.

Careers Clinic services
Areas in which Jane can offer practical support and unbiased advice include:
- Industry insight to boost your understanding of the legal sector and current trends, enabling you to more accurately match employers with your unique skills and interests
- Assessing your options and helping you to devise a realistic job search plan
- Researching individual hiring organisations
- Reviewing CVs and cover letters
- Reviewing application forms
- Interview and assessment centre preparation
- Self-management tips to help you stay motivated and to bounce-back from potential setbacks
To manage your expectations please note the following:
Jane’s role is to:
- Listen and offer a ‘safe’ sounding board
- Respect confidentiality
- Share market insight
- Discuss your potential career-related options / dilemma
- Offer advice on job search techniques, CVs and interviews
- Ask questions that will encourage independence and resourcefulness, and where appropriate challenge unhelpful thinking and / or behaviour
- Offer constructive feedback and help with reality checking
- Share experiences and act as a positive role model
Her role is not to:
- Judge
- Have ‘all' the answers or a ‘silver bullet’
- Be an expert on every area of law
- Tell you what to do
- Make decisions for you

How to book an appointment
FREE 1-2-1 appointments, which will last 30 minutes each and be hosted via Zoom or telephone, can be booked directly with Jane.
Please email your request for an appointment to SQEcareers@barbri.com. Please use “BARBRI Careers Clinic” in the email subject heading and, in the body, include a brief summary of your background and what you would like help with. Appointments will be offered on a first-come-first-served basis.
