It’s been an exciting few months for the BARBRI University Partnerships team. Our mission is to help facilitate accessible routes from campus to legal practice, so it’s been rewarding to see our joint efforts with our university partners come to fruition in the past three months as we launched 3 SQE LLMs.
New university partnerships
We were proud to announce the embedding of our 40-week SQE1 course within the LLM programmes of Edge Hill University (EHU), De Montfort University (DMU) and London South Bank University (LSBU) respectively. It has been great to see students begin their SQE journeys on our platform. As our technology-driven solution manages their workload for them, they balance the industry-leading MCQ practice that we provide with the unique, forward-thinking programmes that our partners have put together. Many students have given positive feedback on the flexibility the course allows for – with one student saying that ISAAC, our AI-driven learning management technology, has made their LLM workload easier to juggle than they initially expected.
The programmes all have a practice-focused approach. EHU students complete a module preparing them for life in the legal profession, a research methods module and a dissertation project based on a practice area of law. DMU and LSBU both have legal experience embedded within their programmes – a crucial element of the route of practice. Experiential learning fundamentally underpins the LSBU programme. Students spend one day a week giving face-to-face advice at LSBU’s in-house legal-advise clinic under the supervision of qualified solicitors. This experience then feeds into their analysis and evaluation. DMU students expand their knowledge in dedicated learning spaces, including their crown court – a site of trials since the Middle Ages – a training courtroom and a simulated Judge’s Chambers suite.
With more programmes on the way we are eager to see more students step closer towards practice with us!
SQE Edge: 100 example SQE multiple-choice questions
With the introduction of the Solicitors Qualifying Exam (SQE), legal professionals of the future not only need to be well-versed in technical subject matter but in multiple-choice assessments too. Considering these changing requirements, aspirational solicitors will be looking for example materials that can support them on their chosen career pathway. To help with that learning journey, BARBRI has released SQE Edge, a free multiple-choice question bank covering all the subjects tested on SQE1 coupled with deep-dive answer explanations, helping students to learn as they go. The 100 MCQ bank gives students a glance at the knowledge level required to sit the SQE and the required topics. It also gives students an example of the BARBRI study system in action.
